PAMA Fellowship & Advanced Training Support Program

The Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA) supports advanced training opportunities that strengthen Palestine's healthcare system. Fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis to individuals and organizations whose training aligns with PAMA's priorities.

Applications are accepted year-round and reviewed quarterly.

How to Apply
STEP 1 – REVIEW ELIGIBILITY & INSTRUCTIONS

Before applying, ensure you meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • I am a Palestinian citizen.
  • I hold a relevant degree or professional certification.
  • The training program is accredited or officially recognized.
  • I can commit to serving in Palestine after completion of training.
  • I have disclosed any potential conflicts of interest with PAMA staff, reviewers, or board members.
  • I have sufficient language proficiency to successfully complete the program.

Step 2 – Complete Required Forms
  • Applicants must download, complete, and sign the following forms before uploading them to the portal:
    • Form 1 – Primary Application (completed online)
    • Form 2 – Organizational Commitment & Endorsement Letter (only if applying through an employer/organization)
    • Applicant Acknowledgment & Data Processing Consent (required if an organization or representative is submitting on behalf of the applicant)

Note: Form 1 (Primary Application) should be completed online through the application portal. You can download the application form to fill it out before submitting. Once complete, copy and paste your answers into the online form below.

Step 3 – Gather Required Supporting Documents
For All Applicants (Individual or Organizational)

All applicants must upload the following documents in PDF format:

  • Acceptance/Enrollment Letter – Official letter from the host institution confirming the applicant's acceptance, including program name, start and end dates, and location.
  • Updated CV – Current curriculum vitae including education, professional experience, certifications, and publications (if applicable).
  • Copy of ID or Passport – Clear, legible copy.
  • Medical or Professional License – Required for all clinical fellowships.
  • Two Professional References – Letters must be on official letterhead, signed, and dated.
  • Detailed Budget & Supporting Documentation – Budget table completed in Section 6, plus all relevant cost evidence uploaded as a single PDF or ZIP file. Supporting evidence may include tuition invoices, travel quotes, equipment estimates, insurance quotes, or other related documentation.
For Organizational Applications Only

  • Institutional Commitment & Endorsement Statement – Signed by an authorized senior representative on official letterhead, confirming nomination of the candidate and outlining post-training reintegration plan.
  • Proof of Registration – Registration certificate with Palestinian Authority, Ministry of Interior, or other relevant authority.

Applicant Commitments (Consent)

By submitting an application, you acknowledge and agree to:

  • Return-to-Service Commitment – Awardees must return to Palestine after training to contribute acquired skills. Applicants who do not return will be required to reimburse PAMA the full cost of the fellowship plus an additional amount equal to double the original cost.
  • Visibility & Storytelling Authorization – PAMA may use fellowship details for donor reporting and awareness.
  • Alumni Network Participation – Fellows are enrolled in PAMA's Alumni Network for mentorship and professional exchange.
  • Certification & Data Processing Consent – You certify that all information is accurate and consent to PAMA's collection and processing of personal data for review, award administration, and compliance reporting.
  • Progress Reporting – Fellows must provide a progress report completed by their supervisor every six months during the fellowship.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • Submission does not guarantee funding.
  • Start early to allow time for document collection and required signatures.
  • Applicants who fail to submit progress reports, requested documents, visibility materials may be subject to contract termination.
AWARDING CRITERIA

Each application will be reviewed by a selection committee based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Alignment with PAMA Priorities and Specialty Needs (15 points) - The degree to which the proposed fellowship aligns with PAMA’s mission and addresses priority specialties, including pediatric critical care, cardiothoracic/thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, nephrology, and anesthesiology.
  • Training Country (5 points) – Preference is given to programs in Egypt, Jordan, and Pakistan, Turkey, Indonesia, considering feasibility, cost, quality of supervision, and potential for returning to serve in Palestine.
  • Applicant Qualifications (8 points) – The applicant’s academic, professional background and certificates.
  • Justification and Expected Impact (15 points) – The extent to which the applicant demonstrates how the fellowship will enhance their professional development and contribute to improving healthcare in Palestine.
  • Integration and Sustainability Plan (15 points) – The feasibility of applying and sustaining newly acquired skills within the applicant’s institution or the Palestinian healthcare system.
  • Budget Reasonableness and Documentation (12 points) – The clarity, justification, and completeness of the proposed budget and supporting documents.
  • Institutional Commitment (8 points – The strength of the sponsoring organization’s support, including reintegration or placement plans and contribution of resources (If the applicant is applying through an organization).
  • Financial Need and Geographic Equity (5 points) – The applicant’s financial need and efforts to secure co-funding or in-kind support.
  • Research, Teaching and System Contribution (12 points) – Demonstrating potential ability to engage in research, mentor peers, and contribute to improving local systems or developing guidelines.
  • References (5 points) – The strength and relevance of the letters of recommendation provided.
POST AWARD DOCUMENTS
  • Copy of guarantor's ID.
  • Guarantor present to sign promissory note.
  • PAMA award letter (provided by PAMA).
  • Official signed/stamped bank letter with IBAN in USD.
  • Updated contact info for fellow and guarantor.
  • Head of Department contact info for progress follow-up.
  • Signed Agreement.
  • Signed Commitment and Consent Form.
