Cancer rates in Gaza are increasing, with the shortage of medications, along with a lack of healthcare facilities to provide necessary treatment, putting patients at increased risk and contributing to a higher mortality rate among cancer patients. Every year, 2,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed. Currently, there are 12,000 total cancer cases, including 600 patients with breast cancer in Gaza.  PAMA initiated a cancer care project that aids the European Hospital and Nasser Medical Complex.

The project’s primary purpose is to increase access to comprehensive oncology services in Gaza, improve the treatment outcomes, and enhance the capacity of healthcare workers through training and staffing. Ultimately, the goal is to increase the survival rates among cancer patients by delivering equitable, effective, and efficient care.

PAMA’s support will cover the following areas:

-Employ the Hematology & Oncology Departments with 169 healthcare workers annually.

-Upgrade the hospitals’ information system to help streamline and improve the efficiency of processes and patient records.

-Secure a year’s supply of essential cancer medications and supplies, e.g., chemotherapy and supportive drugs.

-Equip the oncology and hematology departments with all the necessary administrative supplies.

-Provide diagnostic histopathology and interventional radiology equipment and supplies to enhance cancer care

-Deploy six oncology-specialized missions to offer training and technical support to healthcare workers
