Fellowship Sponsorship Program (2025)

Palestinian American medical association - PAMA

Overview

PAMA’s Fellowship Sponsorship Program supports Palestinian physicians to pursue advanced clinical training in high-demand medical subspecialties at leading international institutions.

The program enables physicians to gain specialized expertise abroad and return to serve within Palestinian referral hospitals. By investing in advanced medical training, the initiative strengthens clinical capacity, improves access to specialized services, and supports the long-term development of the Palestinian healthcare workforce.

Through 2025, PAMA has supported 13 physicians across fellowships in Jordan, Egypt, Turkey, and Singapore. Fellows originate from key referral hospitals across the West Bank, ensuring that newly acquired expertise is reintegrated into the Palestinian health system upon completion of training.

Project Details

Access to advanced subspecialty training opportunities remains limited within Palestine, creating persistent gaps in highly specialized medical services. Many critical fields require training that is not yet widely available locally.

These gaps contribute to a shortage of specialists and increase reliance on external referrals for complex medical cases. Strengthening the pipeline of highly trained physicians is therefore essential to improving the availability of specialized care and strengthening the resilience of Palestine’s health system.

Key Interventions

The Fellowship Sponsorship Program includes several core components:

  • Sponsorship of international clinical fellowships in high-priority medical subspecialties
  • Support for physicians from major referral hospitals across the West Bank
  • Reintegration of fellows into local healthcare institutions upon completion of training
  • Alignment of fellowship placements with national healthcare workforce needs

Target Beneficiaries

The program primarily benefits Palestinian physicians pursuing advanced medical specialization.

Indirect beneficiaries include:

  • Referral hospitals strengthened by the return of highly trained specialists
  • Healthcare teams benefiting from new expertise and clinical leadership
  • Patients across Palestine who gain improved access to advanced medical care

By building a sustainable pipeline of specialists, the program contributes to strengthening clinical capacity, reducing external referrals, and improving patient outcomes across the Palestinian health system.
